Spooky Shortbread

So Halloween is just around the corner and I have some great treats for you all to try. First up my spooky shortbread. A delicious orange shortbread with spooky icing, super tasty and super easy to do at home.

Prep Time: 10 mins

Cook Time: 15 mins

Portions: 12 Biscuits

Ingredients

  • 125g Unsalted Butter
  • 55g Caster Sugar
  • 180g Plain Flour
  • 1 tsp of Orange extract
  • Icing Sugar
  • Water
  • Orange Food Colouring (Gel works best)
  • Black Food Colouring
  • Edible eyes (I found mine in Tesco)

Methord

  1. First you need to preheat your oven to 190C/ Gas Mark 5/ 375F and prepare your baking trays
  2. Now you are ready to go beat your sugar and butter together until light and smooth then add your orange extract and beat further
  3. Now add your flour and beat until your mixture starts to form a ball of dough, see I told you it was easy
  4. Now it’s time to cut your shapes. So lightly flour your surface and rolling pin and roll out your dough to the thickness you like be carful not to have it to thick as it will take a while to cook. Then cut out your spooky shapes, I found some great cookie cutters on amazon so go check it out
  5. Now it’s time to cook them, this will take approximately 15 mins but keep an eye on them. They will be a little soft when you take them out the oven but they will set as they cool, so don’t worry
  6. Whiles they are cooling you can make your icing. So take your icing sugar and add a little water at a time until you get a thick water icing that you can spread on your biscuits. Now you have the thickness you want you can make the colour you want so take your food colouring and add a little at a time till you have the right shade you want. You don’t have to stick to the orange and black as I did, go mad and get creative and do what you want
  7. Once your have iced them add your eyes and anything else you want and let them set then get stuck in and enjoy
