If you are looking for a little treat this valentines day why not give my valentines meringues a go they would make the perfect gift or why not make them for yourself.
Prep Time: 10 – 15 Mins
Cook Time: 1 Hour – 1 Hour 30 Mins
Portions: 20 Small Meringues
Ingredients
- 4 Egg Whites
- 180g Caster Sugar
- 1Tsp Vanilla
- Red Food colouring
- White Chocolate
Equipment you will need
- Flat tray
- Baking Paper
- Electric whisk/Stand mixer
- Large Bowl
- Piping Bag and nozzle
- Spatula/ Metal spoon
Method
- First you need to preheat your oven to 140C /Gas Mark 1 and line a flat try with baking paper
- Now take your large bowl and make sure it is clean and dry then put your egg whites in and whisk on a medium speed until they are stiff peaks (you can check this by putting the bowl over your head if you like) this will take about 5 minutes so don’t worry
- Now your egg whites are whisked up you can now slowly add in your sugar a tablespoon at a time whiles you continue to whisk and do this until your mixture is thick and glossy and again you can check this by holding the bowl over you head
- Ok now take your piping bag and take your food colouring and drip the colouring on the inside of the piping bag so you can create a great pattern (see photo below). You can now fill your piping bag with your meringue mix and pipe
- You can now bake for approximately 1 hour until you can remove your meringues from your baking tray without them sticking
- Now open your oven door slightly and leave to cool completely
- Now you can melt your chocolate and dip one side of your meringues in and leave to set and then enjoy!
